All the fun of the fair

- Leona Greenan

St Bride’s Primary School in Bothwell held their annual sports day last Friday, marking the end of another very successful school year.

For the second year in a row the children arrived at school to discover that overnight their playground had been converted into their very own St Bride’s fairground with chair-oplanes, a ladybird ride, an inflatable super-slide and assault course for the day!

It was all the fun of the fair as the PTA greeted parents with hot coffee and pastries while they watched the school sports in the morning and then over 100 parents accepted their invitation to stay for a light lunch and afternoon tea with the children.

It was very much a community day as staff, parents and children enjoyed the rides, traditional sports, including netball and football games, a very hotly contested egg and spoon race and tug of war.

The PTA had also organised a fabulous tombola and children’s and adult raffle with prizes such as the bumper summer game box and family passes for M&DS , Air Space as well as family meals at local restaurants.

The children enjoyed having their faces painted, munching on popcorn and candy floss as well as playing summer hoopla, splat the rat, tin can alley and den building!

School head teacher Denise Pacitti told the Advertiser: “A huge thank you to everyone for making this day such a huge success.

“A special thank you to the PTA for their fantastic support, planning and organisation leading up to this wonderful day.

“The sun didn’t shine all day but spirits remained high and fun was had by all. I am already looking forward to next year!”
