And here is the news... on new MTV channel

Talented pupils produce own television show

- Shirley Bartynek

‘MTV’ has taken on a new meaning for the pupils at Machanhill Primary School in Larkhall.

A team of primary seven pupils have just finished producing the school’s first ever news programme called ‘Machanhill TV’, or ‘MTV’ for short.

The programme covers school news, projects and events and is created entirely by the pupils, from story ideas and scripting, through to presenting, filming and editing.

The programme is then uploaded onto the school’s website and streamed directly into classrooms.

Head Teacher, Sandy Todd, was very impressed with the pupils’ first attempt and said: “The pupils have shown great initiative with this project and have been very enthusiastic from the start.

“They have made a very interesting, watchable programme.

“As well as being a lot of fun, making the programme has helped to develop the pupils’ IT skills and their confidence, as well as encouraging team and collaborative working.”

Eleven-year-old Brooke Mclean, who was part of the news team, said: “I have learned how to use new editing software which is great and being the editor means you get to see all the outtakes which is good fun.” Cole Curtis, and well-finished aged 12, has been the lead camera man and enjoyed seeing the programme grow from start to finish.

He said: “It has been really good working as a team and getting outand-about.

“We did an item on the new Queensferry Crossing which was really interesting to learn about.”

The P7 TV team will now be handing over the baton to P6 and training them up to take over the project when the new term starts in August.
