Plain abseiling for family as they raise £1200

-

A Stonehouse family raised £1200 for a multiple sclerosis charity by abseiling down the Forth rail bridge.

The Ginestri’s took the 185ft plunge to collect cash for the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

“My daughter Anna was recently diagnosed with the condition and we have received great support from them so we decided it would be a good idea to give something back,” said mum Sandra (54).

“We wanted to highlight the great work that MS Society do.

“But I have to say that the abseil was absolutely terrifying and it’s not something I’ll be in a hurry to repeat – it was scary.

“There was no solid structure as such but I did hit girders a few times,” Sandra added.

She was joined on the charity effort by husband Piero (58), Anna and her boyfriend Dave Simpson.

Anna (24), wanted to highlight that being diagnosed with MS is not the end of the world and that life goes on.

Former Strathaven Academy pupil Anna has a first class honours degree in business from University of West of Scotland and is about to start a teacher training course at Dundee University.

The family would like to thank everyone who helped them raise the magnificent total.

“I can’t thank them enough. We had amazing support from friends, relations and family.

“We couldn’t have done it without them,” said Sandra.

• Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a neurological condition which affects around 100,000 people in the UK.

Most people are diagnosed between the ages of 20-40, but it can affect younger and older people too.

Roughly three times as many women have MS as men.

MS is complex and has many symptoms which might include fatigue, vision problems and difficulties with walking.

The MS Society fund research, give grants, campaign for change, provide information and support, invest in MS specialists and lend a listening ear to those who need it.
