Two men seriously wounded after “targeted” attack in Fairhill

Two men were left seriously injured following a “targeted” shooting in broad daylight in Hamilton on Monday.

Craig Burns and James Mcsorley suffered horrific injuries as a result of the attack which took place at a lane between Millgate Road and Westwood Crescent, Fairhill, at around 2.30pm.

Police this week launched a major investigat­ion into the incident which they are treating as attempted murder.

Burns (26) was taken to Hairmyres Hospital with head, face and chest injuries, while Mcsorley (27) was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow .

Detectives were this week continuing their enquiries following a shooting in Hamilton on Monday afternoon.

A major investigat­ion has been launched following the incident which took place at around 2.30pm.

Officers from Police Scotland’s Major Inquiry Team are conducting enquiries after two men were shot on a footpath between Millgate Road and Westwood Crescent.

A 26-year-old man sustained injuries to his head, face and chest and was taken to Hairmyres Hospital where he was in a “serious but stable condition”.

A 27-year-old man received injuries to his face and head and was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital where medical staff described his condition at the time as “serious but stable”.

Police say enquiries have revealed that two men were in the area at the time of the attack.

Descriptio­ns of both men are limited but the first man is described as around 5ft 6in, wearing a balaclava and a dark coloured jacket.

The second man is described as being over 6ft tall with short hair in a crew cut style.

Officers are appealing for anyone who may have been in the surroundin­g area, and who may have seen these men, to get in touch.

Specialist search officers are examining the area and officers continue to carry out door-to-door enquiries, to try and establish the circumstan­ces of what has happened.

Detective Inspector Grant Durie from the Major Investigat­ion Team said:“i would like to make it clear from the outset that we believe this was a targeted attack and that those injured were the intended victims.

“We are in the process of piecing together the circumstan­ces of what has happened and are still reviewing CCTV footage and carrying out doorto-door enquiries to gather additional informatio­n.

“If you were in the area around the time of incident or you have any informatio­n or knowledge about the suspects or the incident then please do contact police.”

Detective Inspector Durie continued: “Understand­ably, this incident will be of concern for local people and I would like to reassure them that additional officers will be in the area to provide reassuranc­e.

“However, be assured, we are doing everything we can to locate those responsibl­e and if you have any informatio­n then please do pass it on.

“A team of officers is dedicated to this investigat­ion and we will use all available resources to trace those responsibl­e for this attack.”
