- Alastair Mcneill

The programme for this year’s Bothwell Scarecrow Festival was launched this week.

Now in its sixth year, September’s nineday event will, according to the organisers, feature something for everyone.

Among the schedule is a Scottish Motor Show car rally, the ever-popular scarecrow parade which will now feature three bands, and the talent show Bothwell’s Got Talent.

Bothwell Scarecrow Festival committee chairman Harry Marsh said this week: “It’s a great programme this year. The committee worked very hard to come up with fresh ideas.

“We’re very sure that 2016 will be the best scarecrow festival yet and one to remember.”

The Superscarecrow Street competition, introduced in 2014, will also be running again this year.

People living in a village street, part of a village street, can enter.

Prizes will be awarded to the three best entries.

Mr Marsh commented: “The festival’s success is due in no small part to the brilliant scarecrows built and displayed by residents and businesses in Bothwell.

“They attract people of all ages to see them and to participate in the themed events.

“Lots of scarecrows will help to keep the festival going from strength to strength.”

Other attractions include a casino night, Folksy Theatre’s ‘The Smartest Giant in Town’ and a film night.

Surplus proceeds from festival events will be donated to the Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity.

A programme is to be delivered to every house in Bothwell in early August.
