With just under 2500 households and nearly 6000 people in the area, the aim of the association is to widely and actively help promote the businesses and organisations in and around Stonehouse directly to the people of Stonehouse.

Association secretary Peter Ramsay said:“there are many reasons for trading locally wherever possible. Most importantly it supports the local economy and high street.”

Also high on the list of reasons to ‘keep it Stonehouse’include:

• businesses in town create local employment and self-employment

• local businesses are more generous in support of local charities, schools and community events.

• using local services saves money as shoppers don’t need to add on travel time and costs

• local shops are for everyone; they are easier to get to for those without their own transport

• keeping it Stonehouse is better for the environment with less of a carbon footprint.

• local businesses value you and you will receive better customer care.

The association say research shows that for every £1 spent at a locally-owned business, 73p remains in the local economy.
