Gala day smiles

-

Ferniegair residents celebrated their 41st gala day last weekend.

The community event was well attended by residents, both new and old.

It was opened by former world snooker champion Graeme Dott and his wife Elaine.

Councillors Davie Mclachlan, Stephanie Callaghan and MSP Christina Mckelvie also turned out to lend their support.

Bellshill Britannia Accordion Band, the DJS, Diane’s School of Dance and the ride providers entertained the crowd throughout the day.

The gala committee would also like to extend their gratitude to all of the local residents and businesses who donated home baking, raffles and tombola prizes.

“Without them all, the event would not be possible,”added gala spokesman Jim Meikle.

“With council funding cuts and an everexpanding village, it is becoming more challenging year-on-year to co-ordinate and fund the event. Hence, the committee are looking for more local residents to lend a hand to promote the event or to become a gala committee member.”

Residents can find details of forthcoming fundraisers on signposts throughout the village or by liking‘ferniegair Gala Day’on Facebook.
