Hub calls out for volunteers

Come along and do your bit

- Leona Greenan

Hillhouse Community Hub requires volunteers to help with the running of the dayto-day services offered.

The hub operates every Tuesday and Thursday within the Hillhouse and Earnock Community Centre and offers people information, advice and general support .

This includes support when looking and applying for jobs, writing and creating CVS, the chance to purchase fresh fruit, have a coffee at the community cafe, meet new people and have a friendly chat in a relaxing surrounding.

All projects are run by volunteers who are supported by Community Links (South Lanarkshire).

Community Links (South Lanarkshire) currently carry out community development, consultation and engagement activities for adults, children and young people in the local community. They also provide services in marketing, environment, community safety, food poverty, and employment support.

Established in 2002 as an independent charitable organisation, challenged to tackle poverty in communities, it has a particular emphasis on areas that fall into the 15 per cent priority datazones as identified by the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation (SIMD).

And in order to continue to develop the Hillhouse Community Hub and activities, they are currently looking for volunteers in the following projects: SELECT Employability project; the Hillhouse Food Co-op; and the Hillhouse Community Cafe.

A spokeswoman said: “No experience is necessary to volunteer, hours are flexible and full training is provided.

“Anyone interested is asked to please contact us via telephone 01698 827583, write to Community Links (South Lanarkshire), Unit 1a Clydeview Shopping Centre, Blantyre, G72 0QD.”
