Push to bring Gala Day back to Larkhall

-

The Larkhall community are urging residents to come together to help bring back Larkhall’s Gala Day.

It has been years since the gala was held in the town and now a group of residents have set up their own committee in a bid to have the family fun day held in the town.

Chairperson of the gala day committee Claire Mccartney explained: “We have recently come together to get Larkhall gala day up and running again. It’s been many years since Larkhall has had a successful gala day where the community can come out for a fun family day together, so we are in the early stages of hopefully making that happen.

“We had our first official meeting last month, with lots of great ideas put forward. We hope to have a gala court and queen which will consist of local school children and we plan to organise a big parade down the main street made up of local schools, nurseries, clubs etc. We also plan to have a variety of rides and stalls and entertainment set up in an area, which is yet to be confirmed, in a fairly central location so that the fun is easily accessible to everyone as well as hopefully creating lots of extra custom for the local businesses.”

The committee are keen to spread the word about their plans and want to come up with a recognisable logo which they plan to make a competition for local school children to design. Claire added: “It’s a big undertaking and we need as many members of the public to get behind us as well as the local businesses to help raise funds. So far the response has been great, with people donating to our crowd funding page.

“The Applebank pub and restaurant have got behind us and are organising a family sponsored walk to raise funds which will take place on the August 7.

“Our next meeting will take place on the August 30.”
