Nursery celebrates after getting a glowing report
Children and staff at Lilybank Nursery in Burnbank are celebrating after receiving a glowing report.
It comes after the Lilybank Street nursery received an unannounced visit from the Care Inspectorate in June.
The centre was graded over four areas - care and support, environment, staffing, and management and leadership receiving a grade of ‘excellent’ for each, the highest that can be awarded.
Lilybank is operated by a private provider in partnership with South Lanarkshire Council. It can provide day care to 30 children, aged three to school age, at any one time.
During their visit, inspectors spoke with staff and children, and issued questionnaires to parents and carers.
The report stated: “Staff were observed to be kind, caring and supportive in their with the children.
“They listened and intervened appropriately as required to ensure children experienced positive outcomes in the service.
“Children’s comments and suggestions were respected and staff asked open questions to seek more information in order to extend individual learning.
“We experienced that they knew the children well and worked hard to meet individual needs.”
It continued: “Transition procedures involving staff, parent/carers and children were in place to help provide a positive experience for children starting nursery and those moving on to primary school. “This included a settling in procedure, links with 12 feeder primary schools and visits from Primary 1 teachers.
“Children moving on to primary school had two or three visits and were linked with a buddy to ease their settling into Primary 1.”
The report also noted that interactions the nursery’s resources and equipment were of a high standard and quality, with all necessary safety features in place.
The outdoor area, which is being developed by staff, was also praised for providing ‘free choice’ and extending learning through play.
Head of establishment, Margaret Gilmour, said: “Myself and the staff are delighted with the findings of the inspection.
“This is due to the fact that all staff deliver the best possible outcomes in early learning and childcare within the nursery. This is also supported by a very high degree of support and involvement from parents and carers.”
South Lanarkshire Council early years manager Morag Mcdonald added: “We are delighted for the staff and pupils at such a positive outcome for their recent inspection.”
