It’s party time at The Haven

The Haven charity’s Wishaw centre celebrated its first birthday this week.

Based within the grounds of Wishaw General Hospital, the charity supports people and their families who are dealing with life-limiting illness.

It is a unique service with other centres in Blantyre and Forth, which offer one-to-one appointments, holistic services, peer support groups and more.

The Wishaw base opened their doors to the public on August 3 last year and yesterday (Wednesday) celebrated their one year anniversary with a party for staff, service users and volunteers.

Haven nurse Fiona Davidson said: “We’re delighted to be celebrating our first birthday here in Wishaw.

“Looking back on the last year it is amazing to see how the new Haven Centre has flourished and made a great start to embedding itself in the local community and reaching out to even more clients.

“Sometimes even just talking with someone outwith family and friends can be helpful. Having a chat with me about what’s been happening and then working out what support would be best for you is the first positive step to take.

“You don’t need to be referred by a doctor or nurse, you can simply telephone 01698 366948 to make an appointment or you can drop in anytime Monday to Friday 10am to 4pm.”

The charity is funded by a combination of grants but relies heavily on community support and individual fundraisers.

Haven fundraiser Scott Cunningham MBE added: “We are continually looking for support from local businesses, corporate companies and individuals who can excel in personal challenges.

“If you would like to take part in an event or organise an event to help The Haven support more clients, offer more services and continue to grow in the community, then please contact the fundraising team on 01698 727505.

“A huge thank you to everyone who has supported the Wishaw centre over the last year, we thoroughly enjoyed our first birthday celebrations and a big thank you to Jean, cake supervisor at our local charity partner Redburn Farm in Hamilton who made a delicious birthday cake for us all to enjoy.”
