Readers snap up Andy’s new book

- Shirley Bartynek

Fantasy readers are snapping up a former Advertiser reporter’s second book just days after its release.

Hero Grown, by Andy Livingstone, is the sequel to the epic fantasy Hero Born, and has now been released as an e-book through all major digital booksellers by publishing giant Harpervoyager at a great time for people looking to load up their Kindles as they head off for their summer holidays.

Hero Grown is the second book in the epic fantasy Seeds of Destiny trilogy, and follows Hero Born, which was published this time last year.

It continues the story of Brann, a miller’s son dragged from quiet village life by slavers and flung into a world of terror and adventure, where he finds himself at the heart of a conspiracy spanning nations… while all he is trying to do is survive each day.

In this second book, Brann and his companions (along with some new friends) are in a land of unfamiliar culture and customs, where the young hero embarks on a mission that will threaten not just his freedom but his very soul. Meanwhile, his fate becomes linked with that of a master schemer, but will this help him… or kill him?

Andy (48), who lives in Wishaw and is a media officer with South Lanarkshire Council, was the only Scot and one of just 15 new authors to be taken on by the UK office of Harpervoyager in 2014, the science fiction and fantasy arm of Harpercollins, after a worldwide call for submissions had attracted more than 5000 manuscripts.

He said: “Being a writer is a nervous experience because you never know if anyone will like what you have written until you put it out there, so when people like your story enough to order the second book in advance, it boosts your confidence.”
