A popular annual open day held at Motherwell police office has received special recognition in the Scottish Parliament.

Clare Adamson, MSP for Motherwell and Wishaw, highlighted the event by raising a motion at Holyrood commending Police Scotland and its partners involved in the preparations.

The commendation recognises the work the Lanarkshire Division carries out with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and the Scottish Ambulance Service for the event.

It comes as finishing touches are being put on this year’s open day, which will take place on Saturday, August 13.

Attractions include visits from the force dog branch, a display of road policing vehicles and motorcycles and a range of activities to keep little ones amused.

Ms Adamson has also personally corresponded with the Commander, Chief Superintendent Roddy Irvine to wish him, the Division and partners the best of success with the event.

She said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for the people of Motherwell and Wishaw to learn more about the work done by our brilliant emergency services.

“I have lodged a motion at the Scottish Parliament commending the Police Service of Scotland and their partners for holding this open door event and I would encourage all who can attend to do so.”

The motion reads: “that the Parliament commends Police Scotland Lanarkshire Division for its planned open door event on August 13; notes that various activities will be available; including an opportunity to visit the dog branch, meet those involved in recruitment, mountain rescue and the marine unit and view police motorcycles and road policing vehicles along with children’s activities and representatives from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and the Scottish Ambulance Service and encourages all local residents to attend and learn more about the brilliant work undertaken by the emergency services.”

The motion, which has been placed on the Scottish Government website, is supported by other local MSPS including Gail Ross, Liam Kerr, James Dornan, Joan Mcalpine, Richard Lyle, Alison Harris, Clare Haughey, Tom Arthur, Colin Beattie, Neil Findlay, Jackson Carlaw, Fulton Macgregor, Ivan Mckee and David Torrance.

Chief Inspector Glen Bland welcomed the motion.

He said: “Police Scotland would like to thank Clare Adamson MSP for her motion that was raised at the Parliament regarding the Lanarkshire Division open day .

“We would like to welcome members of the public to come and visit the police office where they will be able to see police dogs, cars and motor cycles, view the cells and speak with police from different departments.

“There will also be staff from recruitment for anyone considering a career with the police as well as activities for children and families to enjoy.”

The event will run between noon and 4pm.
