on their workforces.

Without setting out to do so, on occasions over the duration of BHS’S trading in Hamilton, I have realised that everything I was wearing was purchased in the store.

My custom waxed and waned over the years, depending on styles, etcetera, but it was always there for the purchase of quality merchandise at a reasonable price.

I do not believe I am alone in deeply regretting the demise of British Home Stores.

Ian Gourlay Reid Street Hamilton Dear Editor,

New research published by the Trussell Trust brings home the desperate choices facing many UK families this summer.

The findings reveal that a fifth of parents will skip a meal during the school holidays so their children can eat, with the charity estimating that as many as 1.5m people could be forced to forgo food.

Parents told us they are worried about spending more on food for their children during the summer break, and 36% are concerned about paying their essential bills. Extra financial costs during school summer holidays bring added pressure for families already struggling.

Those struggling can use our benefits calculator, grants search and other help at Turn2us.org. It could make all the difference this summer and beyond.

Simon Hopkins, Turn2us Dear Editor,

Every year, Carers Scotland organises, on behalf of the Scottish Government, a Carers Parliament for unpaid carers and former carers from across Scotland.

The event includes opportunities for carers to share their experience and make their views known on important policies and legislation as well as hearing from and speaking with politicians and policymakers (including, last year both the First Minister and Minister for Health & Sport). This year’s event takes place on November 2 in Edinburgh.

Carers can apply to take part in the ballot for places – there are two places for each of the 73 constituencies in Scotland – by visiting www. surveymonkey.co.uk/r/carersparl2016.

The ballot closes on August 12 and will be drawn on August 23. Successful applicants will be contacted shortly thereafter. We cover expenses, including any replacement care or childcare needed to attend, and would encourage carers in your area to take part. They would be very welcome!
