UWS now an official partner with New College
The University of the West of Scotland (UWS) have established a formal partnership with New College Lanarkshire.
It cements their long-standing collaboration and ensures that they will continue to work together to provide the “best opportunities for learners in Lanarkshire ”to progress to degree-level study and graduate employment.
The agreement covers the learner pathways that exist from the college’s HN courses to the university’s degrees, in addition to their jointly-delivered degrees in subjects such as commercial sound production, hospitality management and computer networking, as well as new developments in subjects such as accountancy.
It also ensures that college students will continue to be able to obtain associate student status with UWS, giving them access to many university services.
Coming after the university’s recent announcement of its new Lanarkshire campus development in Hamilton International Technology Park, the two institutions say this new agreement ensures that innovative, 21st century education will be available to everyone in Lanarkshire for many years to come.
Professor Malcolm Foley, UWS vice-principal, said: “we are delighted to have established this important partnership with New College Lanarkshire.
“This partnership will open up even greater opportunities for people in Lanarkshire to pursue university study. At UWS we are committed to developing educational opportunities for people in the region and this partnership follows the recent announcement of our new Lanarkshire campus which will see the development of a customised 21st century learning environment that will make a significant contribution to the Scottish higher education landscape and beyond.”
Heather Urquhart, vice-principal at New College Lanarkshire, which the old Motherwell College is now part of, said:“with five campuses across the heart of Lanarkshire, New College Lanarkshire is committed to providing and improving opportunities for those across the area and beyond.
“This partnership with UWS reaffirms this position and is a positive step for both our current and future students, enhancing their prospects for life after college.”
