Jobs fair is a success
Angela Crawley MP was delighted with the turnout at her jobs fair which was held at University West of Scotland last week.
The MP for Lanark and Hamilton East has expressed her thanks to the nearly 700 constituents who attended the event last Friday, August 19, at the Hamilton campus of UWS.
It was co-sponsored by Job Spot, and 38 stallholders were in attendance, each offering full and part-time positions, apprenticeships and training opportunities.
The event was opened by Hamilton-born Hollywood actor Gianni Capaldi, and followed on from Ms Crawley’s successful jobs fair in Carluke in May.
Ms Crawley believes unemployment is a big problem in her constituency, and said: “The Hamilton jobs fair was a huge success, with double the number of attendees of the Carluke event.
“Unemployment and underemployment are some of the biggest issues facing my constituents, so to be able to do something to help start or change people’s careers is a great privilege.
“The feedback I received on the day and afterwards suggests jobs fairs are worthwhile and many constituents have already said they have found their next career opportunity from the event.
“As a result, I hope to hold two jobs fairs in the constituency each year to help as many people into employment as I can.”
