Men attacked and robbed outside shop

Police were this week appealing for witnesses after a 50-year-old man ended up in hospital after being assaulted outside a shop in Hamilton.

The incident took place outside the Co-op store in Burnbank centre on Sunday at 10.05pm.

The 50-year-old was with a 47-year-old man when they were both approached by two younger men who were unknown to them.

They assaulted the 50-year-old and the other man had his wallet stolen.

The men ran off in the direction of the roundabout at Pollock Avenue. Both suspects are said to be aged early to mid-20s.

One of the men was further described as being 6ft, medium build with light sandy-coloured hair.

The second was described as 5ft 9in, slim build with dark hair.

The victim was taken to Hairmyres Hospital and given treatment to a head injury before being later discharged.

Detective Inspector Alan Hamilton of Cambuslang CID said: “We are appealing for witnesses to this incident in Burnbank and believe the answer lies within the local community.
