Hamilton youngsters are being invited to join a new Beaver Colony.

The 30th Lanarkshire Scout Group, which meets at St John’s Church on Duke Street, will launch the new group on Tuesday (September 6).

The Beavers will run between 6.30 and 7.30pm alongside the already successful Cub Pack, Scout Troop and Explorer Unit, which form part of the Group.

The Colony is the first and youngest section of the Scout Group, and is for youngsters aged five-and-three-quarters to eight.

During their time in the Colony, Beaver Scouts will get a chance to try a wide range of different activities as well as going on days out, and on sleepovers.

Group leaders have developed a fun programme for the first year which includes a ‘Badgetastic’ day at Auchengillan Activity Centre, and visitors from local charities as they work towards some of the exciting Challenge badges that are available.

The 30th Lanarkshire Scout Group has been running since 1922, and has over 40 members throughout the sections.

The active group take part in activities such as camping weekends, hikes, environmental conservation projects in the local community.

There are lots of badges that the Beavers can earn such as, first aid, cook, hobbies and space.

Group Scout Leader, Judy Trayner, said: “This is an exciting development for our group and we cannot wait to welcome new members into our Beaver Colony.”
