Fun in Fairhill

- Robert Mitchell

The community of Fairhill will come together next weekend for their annual fun day.

Hundreds of people are expected to enjoy the event at Fairhill Lifestyles Centre on Saturday, September 10.

Organisers are putting the finishing touches to the event and just hope the weather will hold out.

However, there will still be plenty for people to enjoy on the day.

Louise Mcbride, one of the organisers with Fairhill Community Group, said: “There will be family rides, a bouncy chute and if it’s raining we’ll have a covered bouncy castle.

“We’ve got a magician inside and Centre Stage School of Dance, who are based in Fairhill, will be doing an interactive hour with the crowd. That’s a wee bit different.

“We try to give the community the fun day for free, as much as possible. Other fun days will charge £2 or £3 but all our rides are priced at £1 a turn.”

The fun day will run between noon and 4pm at the Neilsland Road facility.

All of the commercial stalls will also have their goods capped at £5 so nothing will be on sale for more than that.

Around 600 people went to the third annual fun day in 2015. Attendance was down from the 2014 figure of 1500 but that was attributed to bad weather and organisers are hoping for another bumper crowd again this year.

The event is made possible the support of residents, Fairhill Community Group, Community Learning Home School Partnership, the Universal Connections youth group and South Lanarkshire Council.
