Lanarkshire band December caught the attention of the public around the world last year when they released a single - Alison Stewart - named after Bono’s wife as a tribute to U2.

This September, the band have been invited to take part in a special celebration of U2’s 40th anniversary organised by the leading U2 fanzine atu2 (www.atu2.com).

On September 25 four decades ago, the four boys who would become U2 first gathered in Larry Mullen’s kitchen in Rosemount Avenue.

And on September 24 and 25 there will be special celebration concerts in Dublin’s premier Grand Social Venue that will be attended by U2 fans from all over the world.

The concert on September 24 is already sold out, with only a few tickets remaining for September 25.

There is speculation U2’s forthcoming release, Songs of Experience, will be released on their 40th anniversary.

Scott Pattison, guitarist with December, said: “It’s an honour to be invited to play at this event. We wouldn’t be songwriters or musicians at all but for U2. Dublin has a special place in our hearts because of their legacy and the great welcome we received there.

“We are looking forward to going back and meeting fellow U2 fans and musicians from all over the world.”

December’s single Alison Stewart is still available, with all proceeds going to Chernobyl Children International – a charity dear to U2 and Bono’s wife Alison Hewson who serves on the board. The video for the track can be viewed on Youtube.

December released their album I Will Let You Have Your Say at a sold-out gig at Glasgow’s Oran Mor in May this year and will be playing The Glad Cafe in Shawlands, on Saturday, September 10.

December are Scott Pattison on guitar, Paul Ferrie on guitar and harmonica, Stephen Walker on guitar, Grant Mcgregor on bass, Kenny Mcbride/graeme Sparshott on drums and Ails Pattison on lead vocals.
