Strathaven Camera Club The new season for Strathaven Camera Club starts on Thursday, September 8, at 7.30pm, in the small church hall of the Rankin Church in Lethame Road. This year’s full programme of internal competitio­ns, external competitio­ns with other clubs across the West of Scotland and a number of tutorial nights are available on the club website,www.strathaven­cameraclub. co.uk. New members are welcome to join the small group of enthusiast­ic photograph­ers who are willing to share their experience and skills in an informal setting. Additional­ly the club is planning to have a number of guest speakers, the first of which will be Denis Alyshev on October 13. The talk is also open to non-members and general public who may be interested in seeing the presentati­on. It is free to attend, apart from a small donation to cover the cost of tea biscuits. Members are reminded that the first night back is also a competitio­n hand-in night for the open projected images. A club outing to Holyrood is being planned for Saturday, September 24, to view the Harry Benson exhibition. Contact any of the committee members if you wish to attend. Art exhibition Strathaven artist Kris Mckinnon will host the ‘Colours and Chaos’ exhibition on Sunday, September 4, at the office block next to the Town Mill. It will raise money for CHAS (Children’s Hospice Associatio­n Scotland). The free event will run from 10am until 5pm. To find out more about the event go to the Kris Mckinnon Art Facebook page. Sandford Cinema Group Will meet on Friday, September 2, at 8pm when the first film of the new session at Sandford Village Hall will be Eddie the Eagle (PG). There are limited seats and last season they sold out prior to the night, so book ahead to avoid disappoint­ment. To book, call 01357 523406. Bikefest On September 10, the annual Bikefest will take place with both a 50-mile and 30-mile route. The event organised solely to raise funds for the new Sandford Community Play park. Sandford WRI The first meeting of Sandford WRI will be on Wednesday, September 14, at the Sandford Hall at 7.30pm. Aileen Neilson will talk about her Winter Olympic experience­s. The competitio­ns will be oldest medal and a jug of garden flowers. All welcome.
