Josh races to top of podium
A Stonehouse teenager is celebrating this week after being named the Scottish men’s Autograss racing champion.
And it was a double celebration for Josh Reid (19) and his family, as his father, Colin, also joined him on the podium after finishing in second place.
The competitive pair went head-to-head in the Central Scotland open championship in Avonbridge at the weekend.
Autograss takes place on a quarter-mile oval, with the track laid out on a natural surface and fresh track starting off from grass.
The pair race every two weeks at the Avonbridge track.
Josh drives in the class 8 level, in a Hyabusa powered engine 1340cc vehicle, while Colin drives at class 7 in a vehicle which hosts two Aprilla engines at 1000cc each.
The lads take part in events all over the UK.
As well as winning the Scottish final, Josh is currently sitting in fifth place in the UK.
The former Larkhall Academy pupil said:“for my first year in the new car, I’ve achieved what I wanted and more. Right now I’m sitting fifth in my class in the UK Autograss Championships with one more round to go, and could potentially get a top three finish which will be amazing for my first year in this car.
“I will be trying my hardest to bring a trophy back to Scotland. But for me my year is complete as I’ve achieved everything I wanted to, which was top 10 in the UKAC and win the Scottish Open Championship for the second year in a row.”
Colin (42) added:“i’m really happy with my first year in class 7 Autograss. I’ve had a second place in the Scottish open and currently sitting fifth in my class in the UK Autograss championship with one round remaining.
“Also getting to travel all over the country with my family is a real bonus.”
Josh and Colin are sponsored by the family business, Stove Doctor, where they both work, and several Stonehouse companies – DM Racing, the Cross Garage, Triple MMM and CS Homes Ltd.
