Accies hit City for six

MT leads the way with 3

- Colette Carr

Hamilton Accies Women had a happy trip home from the highlands after racking up a runaway 6-1 win over Inverness City.

A Marie Terese Mcguinness hat-trick, a Lori Gardner effort and penalties from Gillian Inglis and Amy Anderson gave Accies the points.

Manager Gary Doctor said he was happy to see a range of scorers, going into a week’s break.

He said: “I think MT has been due a few goals.

The first was a mistake from their keeper, but she had to be there to take advantage of that, so I suppose that’s the bit of luck that we’ve not had in games.

“It was really pleasing for Lori to score, because she had been getting a few chances and I think she was beating herself up a bit, and the second goal was crucial to take the game away from them, so that was probably the most important.

“Amy Anderson had an outstanding game, she was everywhere making chances and was really threatening.”

It took Accies just eight minutes to break the deadlock, albeit through an Inverness mistake.

Anderson’s through ball seemed to be easy for Kim Jappy to deal with, but a lapse in concentration saw the keeper spill it, allowing Mcguinness to knock it into the net.

Five minutes ahead of the break Elaine Fleming was called into action with a crucial save, palming away Natalie Bodium’s effort to make sure Hamilton maintained their lead going into the interval.

Accies grabbed a crucial second goal 12 minutes into the second half when Mcguinness darted down the right wing and crossed for Gardner, who blasted past Jappy.

Jappy’s clumsy challenge on Mcguinness led to a penalty less than a minute later, with Inglis confidently converting.

More positive play by Accies led to Mhairi Lyle playing a superb ball through to Mcguinness, who drew Jappy, turned and slotted the ball past her.

Mcguinness completed her hat-trick in 74 minutes as she rounded Jappy to finish.

Hamilton completed the rout a minute later when Anderson scored from the spot, firing into the left corner, following another infringement.

With four minutes left to play, Jana Brady netted a consolation goal for Inverness City, but by that point the damage was done as Accies grabbed their third successive win.
