-

Lesmahagow .... 1 Wishaw ............. 3

Wishaw clinched their third semi-final slot in recent years when they beat Lesmahagow 3-1 in the Exsel Group Sectional League Cup quarter-final last Wednesday.

Ryan Smillie scored in 14 minutes from a Mark Daly cross, and the latter added a second goal on the half-hour.

Jack Currie pulled a goal back in 48 minutes, and Sandy Thomson made a string of saves as ’Gow stepped up the pace.

Smillie notched his second goal and Wishaw’s third in the last minute.

Manager Chris Mcgroarty said:“it was good. We started really well and were in control. I told them at half-time‘more of the same’because we knew they would come out with all guns blazing.

“Then we lost an early goal, we got a bit nervous, but then got a goal in the last minute.”

Victory set up a semi-final clash at Shettleston last night (Wednesday).

Wishaw were also involved in another cup encounter 24 hours later, being one of only four county clubs featured in the Scottish Junior Cup first round draw.

They were drawn at home to Super Premier side Cumnock, now steered by former Wishaw boss John Mckeown.

Other ties are Largs Thistle v Blantyre Vics, Bo’ness v Bellshill Athletic and Lesmahagow v Irvine Meadow. Ties are due on September 24.
