Fish stolen from pond

-

Hundreds of pounds worth of fish have been stolen from a back garden pond in Hamilton.

Cruel thieves have targeted Allan Barwick’s large collection twice in the space of just two weeks.

Allan, of Tiree Grange, has been left angered by the thefts which have taken place overnight between September 11 and 12 and then again overnight between September 15 and 16.

He said: “I’ve had the fish for 10 years and they were a fair size, some measuring up to 18 inches.

“Some of them would come up to the surface to be fed. Last week I noticed one floating at the top, and when I drained the pool thinking perhaps there was an illness which had caused the death of one of the fish and cleaned it out, I noticed that three others were missing.

“I secured the pond but just less than a week later the rest of my collection was taken. I had the fish for 10 years and now they are all gone. I am really annoyed and angered.”

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident.

Chief Inspector Sandy Blair said: “This is the second time recently the house has been targeted in this way.

“If you are offered unusual fish or any other articles away from a reputable retailer chances are they are stolen.

“If so please call Police Scotland on 101 and report it, as one person’s bargain is the result of another’s loss.”
