Ali Crawford says his double means nothing after suffering a ‘comprehensive’ derby defeat against Motherwell.

The midfielder struck either side of the interval to give Hamilton hope, but effectively the damage was done in a devastating opening 20 minutes that saw Motherwell race into a 3-0 lead.

Crawford scored and hit the post in the first half and netted after the interval to take his tally for the season to six, but was left angry at the final whistle.

He said: “It’s hard to take any positives out of it. It’s a derby game, we’ve been beaten comprehensively, and we started the game 3-0 down, effectively. They went 3-0 up and wee were chasing the game after that.

“After I scored we had a good wee spell in the game, if we got the second before halftime it could have been a different game, but we came out in the second half trying not to lose another goal and that’s what happened almost straight away – that killed our momentum.

“I scored another one and we could have got a point out of it if we took our chances, but I don’t think we were good enough.

“There are positives because we created chances, but that’s not the point – it’s losing three goals and starting the game 3-0 down. We need to tidy up on that and hopefully we’ll get it right next week.

“It’s a big game against St Johnstone on Sunday, we need to go next week, it’s at home and we need to use that to our advantage to try and take three points from them.”
