Scott: We’ve kicked onsince lastyear

-

Scott Mcdonald was delighted with Motherwell’s 4-2 win over Hamilton and admitted it’s a game they would probably have lost last season.

In a game full of incident the Steelmen raced into a 3-0 lead in 20 minutes, but Hamilton had more than enough chances to take something from the game.

Mcdonald was pleased to add to the draw at Ross County last week, and hopes the ’Well continue that run at Partick Thistle on Saturday.

The Australian striker said: “The last two results have been important, in terms of us not getting beat.

“Last year, possibly, we would have lost those games, especially at this time of the season. When you’re not getting beat it grows confidence within the group, that siege mentality, so it’s been good to have that in the last couple of weeks.”

Mcdonald added: “It was a fantastic result. I’m delighted with the victory and the three points is always important, especially on the back of not having won since the first day of the season. It’s nice to get a first home win of the season, and hopefully we can build on this now.

“In the first half with almost every chance that came our way we punished them – maybe in the second or third occasion in those attacks – but we managed to get the goals and that was the real difference. Having Louis Moult back was a big difference.

“When you score three goals as quickly as that I think you have to say it was a fantastic performance. There are still bits and pieces I think we can do better. We’re always looking for better, and we let them back in the game a little bit, which was quite frustrating.

“We took our foot off the gas, mentally they got to us a little bit, and Ali Crawford had a good game. He hit the post with a free kick which would have made it 3-2 before half-time.

“At times we got to not let the occasion sometimes get to us, when someone scores we have to get back to what we were doing before that. We got the fourth goal, they scored again, we cleared one off the line, so did they – it was a good game.”
