180 new jobs at Lightbody

Lightbody of Hamilton are launching a new cupcake line at their site which will create 180 new permanent jobs.

The firm currently have over 1100 staff employed at the Hamilton site.

This new project will be their biggest product launch yet, involving both a significan­t investment in new machinery and jobs.

Lucy Will, site director for Lightbody, said: “We are extremely excited to be producing this new range of cupcakes in Scotland as it supports a period of growth into this marketplac­e. It is a fantastic opportunit­y to boost our workforce with a substantia­l number of new employees based at the Hamilton site.”

Most of the jobs will be in place by the start of the new year, with new starts on board by spring 2017.

Christina Mckelvie – the MSP for Hamilton, Stonehouse and Larkhall – said: “I’m delighted to note that Lightbody of Hamilton are looking to recruit over 180 jobs within the next year.

“These will be permanent, structured jobs, giving workers security and assurance within their work. In recent years, the company have gone from strength to strength, becoming a shining example of good, decent local employment within Hamilton.

“Both Angela Crawley MP and I have launched the Hamilton Town Centre Action Plan, an initiative to revitalise jobs and growth into Hamilton.

“Lightbody are an excellent example of a thriving local business who represent exactly what our action plan sets out to achieve.

“I look forward to working with them closely over the next five years to see how the Scottish Government can bring even more jobs and growth back into Hamilton.”
