Biggar throw away chance to cause upset

-

Biggar were brought back down to earth with a bump as National League 2 leaders Cartha QP racked up win that was actually more convincing than the scoreline suggests.

The visitors were architects of their own downfall with several unforced errors, but Cartha would say that their own

mistakes cost them at least three tries in the opening quarter alone.

Cartha launched wave after wave of attacks, with some sound tackles, opportune turnovers and at least one player being held up over the line seeing Biggar hold out.

Biggar then took the lead through a Gregor Stewart penalty.

Biggar went straight back into attack and Jamie Orr was held up over the line, but eventually the pressure told and Stewart slotted a second penalty.

Cartha pulled a penalty back through Wayne Burrows, but Biggar went on the attack again and a great run by Jamie Orr saw the big lock pop the ball inside for Duncan Withers to gallop over the line, taking them into the lead at 11-3.

Cartha then fought back and used the driven line to good effect as they managed to shunt Biggar back and score a try through Burrows, reducing the interval deficit to 11-8.

Cartha repelled Biggar’s attacks thereafter, and added tries through Stephen Hartman and David Irvine, with Burrows converting one of them.

The result drops Biggar down to sixth, and they host Kirkcaldy next.
