More trouble on the way..

-

Commuters face more travel misery this weekend as work progresses on the installation of the new footbridge at the Raith Interchange near Strathclyde Park.

Weekend motorists are being advised to expect delays on the A725 on approach to M74 Junction 5, Raith roundabout, as part of the £500m M8 M73 M74 Motorway Improvements Project.

The works to progress the new Raith roundabout will take place over two weekends in October and November and will see a contraflow in operation reducing the roundabout to one lane in each direction.

The first contraflow will be in operation on the A725 Raith roundabout on the northern half of the circulatory, with one lane running in each direction from 8pm on Friday, October 28, to 6am Monday, October 31.

As a result, there will be no access to Strathclyde Park or the M74 southbound at Junction 5 on-slip from the Raith roundabout.

Visitors to Strathclyde Park should follow the signed diversion to the Motherwell entrance via the M74 southbound, Junction 6 Hamilton.

Access from Strathclyde Park onto Raith roundabout will be maintained on to the M74 southbound and A725 southbound.

In addition, access to Hamilton, Bothwell and the M74 north and southbound will be restricted, with signed diversions in place.

This traffic management is required for the installation of a new foot bridge for pedestrians and cyclists near to the entrance to Strathclyde Park.

Graeme Reid, Project Manager for the M8 M73 M74 Motorway Improvements Project, said: “These works have been scheduled to take place over two weekends to avoid disruption to commuters during the morning and evening peaks. Following these weekend contraflows, the new Raith roundabout will be in its final alignment with full operation restored ahead of the Monday morning rush hour.

“Whilst we’re doing everything we can to minimise the disruption, delays will be inevitable, and we’re asking motorists to check the Transport Scotland and Traffic Scotland websites for updates, to plan their journeys in advance and to look at taking an alternative route if possible.”
