Doc: We must build on win

-

Greg Docherty says Hamilton’s win over Aberdeen will make the rest of the league take notice – but will mean nothing if they don’t beat Dundee on Saturday.

The midfielder was on brilliant form as Accies shocked high-flying Dons with an Alex D’acol penalty winner, and Docherty hailed their battling qualities.

He said:“i felt we were really resilient; we took the lead again, and managed to see it out against a quality side like Aberdeen, who are sitting high in the league – and rightly so – it just shows that if you stick to what you know and keep working hard you will get results.

“We made it hard for them, I don’t think they were expecting it, but that’s what we’ve got to do every week and Saturday becomes massive now – that result means nothing if we don’t go and react on Saturday.

“We know we can beat teams, so we need to stick together and keep working hard, which the manager has instilled in us.”

Docherty added:“if you look at our fixtures in December it’s going to be very tough, we know that already, so we have to get as many points on the board as we can.

“We’ve had a few slip-ups already, in terms of dropping points, but hopefully the result on Tuesday will kick us on, and the dressing room is buzzing right now. We know that’s what we’re capable of if we work hard.

“We were horrible to play against, but at the same time we were actually playing good football, not just in their faces. Hamilton can get a bad name sometimes because we’re in teams’faces, we’re a hard team to play against, but we have quality, guys like Ali Crawford, Gramoz Kurtaj came on as well, Darian Mackinnon was outstanding, Mick Devlin came back in after six weeks out and he was phenomenal, he’s a great leader, and Gary Woods made important saves.”
