Man dies in Larkhall

- Shirley Bartynek

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man died after apparently stumbling onto a road in Larkhall.

The body of John Bell (58) was found on Craigbank Road around 8.40pm on Saturday.

It is believed he was hit by a car after falling onto the road.

Floral tributes were laid in memory this week of a 58-year-old Larkhall man who died after apparently stumbling onto the road at the weekend before being hit by a car.

Police were this week appealing for witnesses after the body of John Bell was found on Craigbank Road at around 8.40pm on Saturday outside the 101 store.

Sergeant Stewart Dyer, Divisional Road Policing Department for Lanarkshire, said: “from CCTV, it would appear the man has stumbled and then fallen onto the road near to the ‘101’ convenience store, where he was then struck by a blue Ford Fiesta. At this time, we don’t know whether he has taken unwell prior to falling.

“However, a post mortem will take place in due course to establish the cause of his death. We are keen to hear from anyone who was in Craigbank Road at the time of the incident and who may have seen the deceased or the blue Ford Fiesta.”

The 72-year-old female driver of the Ford Fiesta was uninjured.

Neighbours of John were this week saddened by the incident and described him as a “man who was very quiet and kept himself to himself”. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in connection with the incident.

Any information can be passed to officers at Divisional Road Policing Department, Lanarkshire, via 101.
