A midwife and two healthcare teams from Lanarkshire have been selected as finalists at the Scottish Health Awards 2016.

Cheryl Clark has been shortlisted for the Midwife Award thanks to her commitment and the support, encouragement and teaching she provides to her colleagues at Wishaw General.

She has made sure that the maternity unit at the hospital is a safe, effective and efficient service for mums, babies and families.

The Meaningful Activity Club at the hospital has been named as a finalist in the Top Team Award category.

It promotes independence for patients with dementia in acute hospital care and encourages them to engage in activities such as gardening, baking, music and pets.

This innovative idea has made a positive impact on patients with dementia that benefits staff, patients and relatives.

In addition, a team from NHS Lanarkshire was involved in The Safer Prescribing Through Better Use of Data team which has reached the finals of the Innovation Award.

All nominees fought off stiff competition from across the country to secure their place at this year’s glittering award ceremony in November.

Neena Mahal, chair of NHS Lanarkshire, said: “I would like to congratulate all of our finalists.

“I’m sure they will all feel tremendously honoured that their commitment and dedication as health professionals has been recognised in this way.

“The fact that this tribute has come from their colleagues, patients and the public makes it all the more significant and it’s fantastic that they have got to this stage.

“I’d like to join with everyone at NHS Lanarkshire in wishing all the finalists the best of luck at the awards ceremony.

“It is a clear reflection of their skill and dedication as individuals.

“But teamwork is always vital to our success so it is also a tribute to all NHS Lanarkshire staff, whose quality of care makes a difference to people’s lives every day.

The Scottish Health Awards recognise and reward the dedicated NHS staff, support workers, volunteers and specialist teams who go the extra mile to provide outstanding patient care.
