Midge Ure is set for Motherwell concert

- Jonathan Geddes

Cambuslang native Midge Ure is set to play a show at Motherwell next month - and he’s going to play songs from every album he’s made.

The Ultravox singer, who went to Rutherglen Academy when he was younger, will be at the area’s Concert Hall on December 14 as part of his Something From Everything tour. In 2015, Midge Ure and semi acoustic duo India Electric Company successfully presented the Breathe Again show throughout the UK and across Denmark, Germany and Italy as a 20th anniversary retrospective. It was the first time that Midge featured an album in its entirety and it has proved to be a successful format.

For the shows in 2016 the plan is to touch on the broad reach of his recorded output with the Something From Everything tour, a show that covers at least one song from every album he has released, going back to his days with the Rich Kids in 1977, via Visage and Ultravox, to his solo albums such as the Gift, Pure and Answers to Nothing.

Once again utilizing the three piece format which adds texture and depth to the material, this time Joseph O’keefe will be adding keyboards to the mixture to help provide a more electronic nature to some of the songs.

It promises to be a show that will appeal to both the hit-conscious customer and the long term fan looking for something unusual played live with all the usual commitment.

Midge has previously spoken about his fondness for his Lanarkshire roots.

He said: “There’s always some changes in the area but I try to get up four or five times a year.

“I don’t have an awful lot of family up there anymore, so it tends to be for work or things like that.

“It’s always good just to stomp around Rutherglen or Cambuslang though, see the old schools that are still there.

“It’s reminds me of when I was growing up, and it reminds me of what I was wanting to try and get to when I was younger.

“When I started out gigging in Rutherglen I played as much as I could.” Tickets are priced at £20. They can be bought from http:// www.whatsonlanarkshire.co.uk, by popping into the venue in person or by calling 01698 403 120. The show starts at 7.30pm.
