Well bounce backin rout
Motherwell .. 4 Ross County. 1
Graham Barnstaple Motherwell returned to winning ways against Ross County on Saturday, following their 3-0 defeat by Inverness in midweek.
Scott Mcdonald’s early goal helped settle things down, then Kenny Van Der Weg’s own-goal before the break virtually sealed the win.
Richard Tait’s first goal for the club was followed by a strike from Lionel Ainsworth, before Alex Schalk pulled a consolation goal back for County.
Manager Mark Mcghee said: “I’m delighted, and we still need to win games and play well.
“At training I sensed there was an appetite and desire to get back, so I was well pleased.
“I think that was, overall, about our best performance of the season.
“We have proven we have bouncebackability, this was a big day for the experienced players and the ones we needed to step up all did well.”
Motherwell opened the scoring in eight minutes when Chris Cadden’s charge was halted by a clumsy tackle by Van Der Weg and Ainsworth’s free kick was perfect for Mcdonald to head past Scott Fox.
Louis Moult then chased what looked like a lost cause, but his cross deflected off Van Der Weg and into the net.
Motherwell made a great start to the second half as Tait raced into the box and blasted a shot past Fox.
The win was put beyond doubt in 61 minutes when Mcdonald’s through ball sent Ainsworth clear and he darted past the defence and Fox for a tap-in at the left post.
Schalk left Craig Samson with no chance as he rifled in a shot late in the game, but too late to impact.
