Green light for 100 homes
Dairy site earmarked
Plans for 100 Hamilton homes on the site of a former dairy have been given the green light by councillors.
Applicant Springfield Properties aims to build a mix of one- to threebedroom flats and two- to three-bedroom semidetached and terraced properties on the Hillhouse Road site.
Previously occupied by Scottish Milk Dairies, the site has lain vacant for a number of years.
The housing scheme also comprises infrastructure and landscaping works to create a ‘village green’ feature.
Council planning chief Michael Mcglynn pointed out to South Lanarkshire’s planning committee last Tuesday, November 1, that houses were an acceptable use for the site given the existing commercial, industrial and residential properties.
There were no objections to the scheme and statutory consultees offered no objections.
Mr Mcglynn further stressed that the proposal was consistent with the local authority’s ‘Affordable Housing and Housing Choice’ policy “and will assist in the provision of alternative housing choices”.
He said: “The redevelopment of the site with a modern housing development will enhance the general amenity of the area for the benefit of all its residents and will complement the recent development proposals in the area.
“(It) meets current requirements in terms of parking standards and no specific concerns, subject to conditions, have been raised by the various consultees and it is noted that no third party representations have been received in respect of the development.
“There would be no adverse impact on amenity or the landscape character of the area, indeed development of the site is likely to improve the amenity of the area through the removal of a longstanding vacant site at this location.”
