Bellshill Athletic win flies the flag

Bellshill Athletic beat Johnstone Burgh 5-3 to emerge as the only local club to record a victory in the Central First Division card.

Manager Robert Sneddon said: “In the first half we did well – scoring three goals through Ritchie Kane, Chris Mccormick from a penalty and Kyle Robertson.

“Early in the second half we added a fourth through a Declan Brown penalty, then we seemed to take the foot off the gas and they cashed in to make it 4-2, then Davie Dodds scored to make it 5-3.

“Overall, it was a good performanc­e to secure three points to lift us up a couple of places in the league table.”

The only other point was gained by Thorniewoo­d United who drew 1-1 at home to Neilston, assistant manager John Paul Mcbride netting.

Wishaw were leading 3-1 when their match at home to St Roch’s was abandoned with seven minutes to go.

They trailed 1-0 at half-time, then Ross Mcgeachie and Dan Kindlan scored before a ‘Rock’player was sent off after punching a Wishaw substitute sitting in the dug-out.

Stephen Mullen added a third before two‘rock’ players collided in the box: one of them lay unconsciou­s on the ground and an ambulance was called: the referee decided to abandon the game amid confusion and arguments.

Larkhall Thistle’s recent run of form ended with a 4-1 defeat away to table toppers Cambuslang Rangers.

Manager Duncan Sinclair said:“i thought 4-1 flattered them – we deserved to take something from the game.”

Lesmahagow lost their third game on the trot as they went down 1-0 at home to Greenock.

Manager Robert Irving said:“we played not too badly, but we just can’t score goals.

“We’ll get a wee boost this weekend when Jon Mcstay comes back after a lengthy spell out with a broken collar bone – he is keen to make a comeback.”

Forth Wanderers hit back after conceding two goals inside three minutes at home to Vale of Clyde to draw level at half-time. Warren Grenfell blasted home a replica counter as the previous weekend. Then John Watson rifled a Willie Mclaren chip into the net to make it 2-2. Vale of Clyde hit back however, winning the game 4-2.
