Imrie: We just need to relax
Dougie Imrie admitted his frustration at Hamilton’s inability to take their chances, but said a draw against Kilmarnock was fair, and that both sides should have had penalties.
Imrie went down under a challenge by Luke Hendrie in 20 minutes, and experienced Killie striker Kris Boyd tumbled to the deck after being tackled by captain Michael Devlin four minutes later.
Imrie reckoned both sides could feel aggrieved, but said had Accies taken their chances they could have been comfortably ahead.
He said:“kilmarnock have probably got away with one, because I thought we were excellent in the game. On chances created, with a little bit of composure in the final third, we would probably have won 2-0 or 3-0.
“We’ll keep going, but we need to relax a little bit and have more composure in the final third, pick out the right player or the final pass. At the moment I think we’re trying to force things, but we’ll keep working on it in training and, as a team, to get it right.
“We’ve been great this season, although we should be higher up the league with more points, and we know that. We should have killed teams off, and that has probably been our downfall this season.
“We’re creating plenty of chances but not taking them, so things could be different, but we’ll keep plugging away.
“It’s a good point. If you can win your home games, anything away from home is a bonus.”
Imrie said on the other chances created in the match, Accies should be three points better off.
He said:“rakish Bingham should score – he’s four yards out with nobody near him, he just has to put his head on it. Things like that have been the story of the season for us. We’re creating chances and not taking them – but they will come.”
