Gary Woods was happy with a point and a clean sheet from Saturday’s clash at Kilmarnock, but said on another day Hamilton could have been 2-0 up by the interval.

It wasn’t exactly a spectacle at Rugby Park as neither side were able to provide much of a spark to ignite the match on a freezing November 5, although Killie have keeper Jamie Macdonald to thank for providing two stunning saves to deny Greg Docherty and Massimo Donati late on.

Goalkeeper Woods, who has admirably replaced injured Remi Matthews, said it was both a point gained and two dropped.

He said: “I think we created a lot in the first half, put them under pressure without them really creating anything, or having a shot on goal. In the second half, as the home team, they’ve come into it a bit more, but on another day we would have gone in 2-0 up at half-time.

“We’re walking away with a clean sheet and a point, so I think we gained something and we build on it.

“The game didn’t have much quality, it was a bit patchy, but we made the keeper work towards the end. We were disappointed not to make him work a bit more in the first half, but that happens, and we kick on in a couple of weeks with Hearts at our place on a Monday night.

“I think we’re playing well this season, apart from the 1-0 defeat against Dundee we’ve done well in most games, but it’s about getting points on the board, and we need to start scoring more goals.”
