Mcghee fumes atref’s blunder

Dundee .......... 2 Motherwell .... 0

Graham Barnstaple Motherwell boss Mark Mcghee reacted with fury after a controversial decision denied his side a clear goal against Dundee on Saturday.

It looked very much like Dens keeper David Mitchell had carried a Scott Mcdonald cross over his line and into the net, but neither referee John Beaton nor his assistant Ross Haswell signalled for a goal.

Dundee went on to win 2-0, with goals from Cammy Kerr and Marcus Haber.

Mcghee fumed: “The goal that wasn’t given was clearly a goal, there is no doubt. At the time I thought that – and, having looked on the camera, it’s a goal.

“It didn’t cause us to lose the game, but I think it caused us not to win the game. I have to say, though, the linesman has to help him.

“At that time we were starting to undermine them, they were getting a bit of stick from the crowd, the goalkeeper was under a little bit of pressure, and that was the point at which we could have gone on to win the game.

“We then conceded a goal and then they just turned us around, constantly hooked it back in, and we found it very difficult to get out against them.”

The controversial moment came in 21 minutes when Mitchell appeared to carry the ball over his line, but play simply raged on.

Well were further punished in 40 minutes when Craig Wighton saw his shot well saved by Craig Samson, but the rebound fell for Kerr to sweep it into the net.

Samson kept Motherwell in the game with two top saves, before Wighton beat Ben Heneghan and crossed for Haber to tap in from close range to seal the points with 10 minutes left.
