Break-in won’t stop school’s festive fair

Christmas fun date

- Kirsten Mcstay

St Ninian’s Primary School in Hamilton are getting into the festive spirit despite their school being targeted by vandals earlier this year.

Staff, pupils and the parent council are making plans for their annual Christmas fair which will be held on Friday, December 2, between 2pm and 4pm.

There will be stalls selling gifts, cards, cakes and festive goodies for the grown-ups with activities, games, competitions and sweets for the kids.

Pupils will also sell items they have made in class and refreshments will be available for everyone to enjoy.

Visitors can try their luck at raffles and tombolas and Santa’s grotto will of course, take pride of place at the event.

Teachers, pupils and the parent council are working together to run the fair and have ambitious plans in place to maximise fun and fundraising.

The school was broken into in October and a lot of damage was done to the building and the ICT suite in particular.

Some of the proceeds from this event will be used to allow children to choose new fun equipment and add some finishing touches to their classrooms.

Head teacher Margaret-anne Kennedy said: “The break-in was devastating but we pulled together to get things running as quickly as possible for the children. We are determined to run this fair to raise children’s morale and pay for them to see a pantomime. The children are working very hard to make sure it is a big hit with their families and the local community.”

Parent council co-chair Fiona Maguire said: “We ran a very successful spring fair which everyone enjoyed so we have decided to go even bigger and better for Christmas.”
