Our toy appeal draws to close
Donations must be in by Monday
With the Hamilton Advertiser’s Christmas Toy Appeal drawing to a close in the next few days, we have received a surge of gifts from churches, businesses and community groups across the county.
We’ve had support from members of St John’s Church in Hamilton, Birkenshaw Women’s Guild and Larkhall’s Machan Church, who kindly donated hundreds of brand new toys.
The staff at Ferring Therapeutics in East Kilbride, Macphie and Glenbervie of Tannochside, Payment Protection Scotland in Bellshill, Morrison Utility Services in Blantyre, Hamilton Grammar School and South Lanarkshire Council have also delivered a huge assortment of toys and gifts this week.
And Lanark and Hamilton East MP Angela Crawley also supported our appeal with a mammoth donation that was handed in from her office.
These, together with the hundreds of parcels we received from members of the public, will guarantee that the needy children we help in South Lanarkshire have an extra-special Christmas this year.
Advertiser editor Robert Mitchell said: “It’s been fantastic that so many businesses have joined our readers in helping so many children across South Lanarkshire.
“Once again, we can’t thank everyone enough for their generosity at Christmas.
“With this year’s appeal being brand new items only we weren’t sure exactly how it would go, but our readers have again surpassed our expectations with their kind donations.”

Meanwhile, our wonderful friends at the Salvation Army’s Hamilton branch have put on their Santa hats and are working their little elves to distribute the toys by Friday, December 16 – ensuring every little one on South Lanarkshire Council’s social work services list wakes up to a goody or two this Christmas Day.
Anyone wishing to hand in a donation has until 1pm on Monday, December 12, to do so at the Advertiser’s office in Campbell Street, Hamilton or until noon at The Salvation Army hall, Burnblea Street, Hamilton.
