Two car smashes cause rush-hour chaos
Rush-hour traffic ground to a halt after two accidents on the dual carriageway between Hamilton and Motherwell on Tuesday evening.
Emergency services rushed to Hamilton Road at around 5.20pm following reports of a collision.
However, they were met with two separate accidents in the area – one involving two vehicles and the other a three-car incident.
While no one was injured in the smaller incident, one man was taken to hospital after being involved in the three-car smash.
Police have confirmed that he will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal for alleged road traffic offences.
Traffic was almost at a standstill as emergency services worked at the scene, and vehicles – including one which had its roof removed – could be seen at the side of the road.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “In relation to the three-car crash, the 46-year-old male driver of a white Dacia Sandero was taken to Wishaw General Hospital for treatment.
“The 36-year-old male driver of a silver Ford Focus and a 40-year-old female driver of a black Volkswagen Polo were not injured.
“A 46-year-old man will be the subject of a report to the Procurator Fiscal in connection with alleged road traffic offences.”
A spokesman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “The service was alerted on Tuesday at 5.20pm to a road traffic collision at Hamilton Road, Motherwell.
“On arrival crews were faced with a two-car collision and a separate three-car collision, both less than a mile apart. A total of three casualties were transferred to the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service.
“Firefighters left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe.”
