Blantyre Reverend releases advent calendar film online
The minister at Blantyre Old Parish is helping bring a new twist to Christmas to life by featuring in an online Advent calendar.
Rev Sarah Ross has filmed her special message, which will be released on day 12.
The Church of Scotland gave 25 ministers a word relating to a different aspect of the season, which they talked about.
Blantyre Old Parish were given the word‘help’ and shot a short video featuring two sides of Christmas in today’s culture – the foodbank parent and the frazzled parent with everything to do and all the appearance of wealth.
Rev Ross said:“we appreciate that we have stereotyped, but we wanted to show the difference in two very different mums at this time of year.
“We were trying to show that families, rich or poor, need help and that Jesus came to be our help, whilst acknowledging the need to help others. We hope it stirs people to think about the help that is there for them, but also the help they give others.”
The church have seen thousands of people signing up to receive daily email reminders when each door of their online calendar opens, and they are confident that the videos will be viewed more than 250,000 times.
