Lapses atback cost Well points

-

Motherwell .. 3 Celtic ........... 4

Graham Barnstaple Mark Mcghee was happy that Motherwell had a go at Celtic, but said defensive lapses cost them dearly.

A Louis Moult double had the Steelmen 2-0 ahead at the interval, but goals from Callum Mcgregor and Patrick Roberts levelled for the visitors.

Lionel Ainsworth then restored Motherwell’s lead, but Stuart Armstrong equalised and Tom Rogic scored a last-gasp winner for the league leaders.

Mcghee said: “You want to compete and say you had a go, and I think we did that; our first-half performance was fantastic.

“We now have to produce these individual performances in the future.

“We are a team that concedes goals, and that is our problem at the moment. We have scored three and lost four, so that’s where we will be doing the work this week.”

Motherwell got off to a great start when Stephen Mcmanus’s long-ball forward was lobbed over stranded Craig Gordon by Moult after three minutes.

Moult swept a Chris Cadden cross just past in 27 minutes, but he smashed a Ross Maclean cross in at the back post in 35 minutes.

Celtic changed their shape at the interval and sub Mcgregor waltzed through the defence to net in 48 minutes.

Three goals in as many minutes turned the game on its head.

In 70 minutes Roberts headed in an Armstrong cross to equalise.

Motherwell responded immediately, with Ainsworth firing in a Stevie Hammell cross, but within a minute of that Armstrong had blasted a shot past Craig Samson to draw level.

Rogic clinched the points with a shot from 18 yards.
