Politicians putting their energy into combatting fuel poverty
MP and MSP team up for advice fair in Whitehill centre
Whitehill Neighbourhood Centre will host an energy advice fair on Monday, December 19.
The event is being held by Angela Crawley MP and Richard Lyle MSP, from 11am till 1pm.
The fair will bring together engineers, customer service representatives, billing experts, energy saving advisors and smart-meter advisors, allowing residents to discuss their problems directly with experts.
This follows constituents contacting both politicians regarding issues with heating their homes in the run-up to Christmas.
Confirmed exhibitors include the Citizens’ Advice Bureau, Money Matters, Home Energy Scotland, EDF, N-power, Scottish Gas, Scottish Power and E-ON.
Lanark and Hamilton East representative Angela said: “Thousands of my constituents live in fuel poverty and have to make the decision between heating and eating. I want to make sure that residents are getting the best help and advice available.
“Saving money on energy bills can often be as simple as switching your tariff and this event will provide advice on that; along with other steps that can be taken.
“Both Richard and I are looking forward to welcoming constituents to the fair and are confident that the advice available will help save some money throughout the winter period.”
Richard Lyle, member for Uddingston and Bellshill, added: “I’m delighted to be working in partnership with my colleague Angela Crawley to provide access to important information on energy, particularly at this time of year.
“The realities of fuel poverty are faced by many in our communities, day in and day out. Working in partnership to provide information that is clear, accessible and user friendly will help I hope to address some of the issues constituents may be facing.
“This Christmas, we want people to be informed and able to ensure that their homes are warm this winter and we are pleased to be able to play our part in getting those key messages out there.”
