Bright star Eilidh now laid to rest

- Shirley Bartynek

The heartbroken parents of a fiveyear-old Hamilton girl who died suddenly have thanked everyone who donated to charity in memory of their daughter.

More than £13,000 has now been raised for The Brightest Star charity in tribute to Townhill Primary schoolgirl Eilidh Dempsey, who was laid to rest last Tuesday.

Her parents, Debbie Mcginty and Craig Dempsey, requested that only family flowers be at the funeral. However, donations could be made in Eilidh’s memory to the charity that offers support to parents who have lost a child.

In just a few days the Justgiving page smashed its initial target of £500 and the figure has now risen to over £13,000.

Debbie wrote on her Facebook page: “Thanks to everyone that donated, took the time to message, visit and helped us through the last two weeks. We appreciate it all so much. We are so blessed to have had Eilidh in our lives for nearly six years. She was truly special.

“We are so lucky and grateful to have the family and friends that we have. Can’t thank everyone enough for what they have done for us. Means the world. Massive thanks to Young’s in Hamilton for helping us give Eilidh the send off she deserved. We are forever grateful.”

Scores of heartfelt tributes poured in after the news that Eilidh had passed away on Monday, December 5,

The schoolgirl, who was described as “a beautiful angel”, became unwell and a doctor and ambulance were summoned.

Eilidh passed away later that afternoon. Police have confirmed there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding her sudden death.
