Vics’ ‘Scottish’ victory

Scottish Junior Cup appeal joy

Blantyre Vics were given a major boost with news that the Scottish Junior FA appeals committee decided last Thursday that their Scottish Cup third round win over Bo’ness United should stand.

The call for a replay after the referee ordered a period of extra-time before being instructed by the referee supervisor to go to penalties was thrown out by the governing body.

The game had been locked at 2-2 with Vics winning 4-3 on penalties.

Manager John Gibson said: “I’m pleased with the outcome – I think it’s only fair. Now we can look forward to playing against Linlithgow Rose on January 21.”

On the not-so-bright side, Vics were hammered 6-1 by Renfrew at the weekend, a side sitting on the same 11-points bracket on the fringe of the play-off pack in the Super First Division.

Gibson blasted:“it was poor stuff. We didn’t defend, and gifted them four of their goals, throwing away all the good work we’ve been building up with our new side.”

Shotts recovered from a shaky spell to beat Irvine Vics 3-1 after a Glen Eadie conceded an own goal after eight minutes.

Dean Sutherland fired wide, before equalising from an Andy Scott pass in 35 minutes.

Eadie atoned by putting Shotts ahead in 51 minutes, and Gavin Macpherson put them 3-1 up on the hour-mark.
