Accies run out of steam against the Gers

Tired Accies struggle to match Gers

Hamilton ...................... 1 Rangers ........................ 2

Martin Canning admitted his side’s exertions against Celtic the previous midweek had left his Accies side drained when Rangers visited on Friday.

The Hamilton boss says to have a chance of taking points against Mark Warburton’s men everybody has to be giving 100 per cent – which his side was unable to deliver.

While Canning said the endeavour, work ethic, and commitment wasn’t in doubt, he admitted Rangers were simply the better team and Martyn Waghorn’s two goals knocked the stuffing out of them.

Dougie Imrie added a late strike to give Hamilton hope, and although Georgios Sarris went close with a header and Ali Crawford sent an effort just over the bar in the last minute of stoppage-time, Rangers deservedly held on to the three points.

Canning said: “In the first half there was almost nothing in it, but they finished the half slightly better.

“In the second half Rangers went 2-0 up and from there got a head of steam, and when we got the goal back it swung our way for a bit. Goals change games.

“To beat Rangers you need to be at 100 per cent and that was always going to be difficult given the game at Celtic on Tuesday.

“You could see that with their second goal. We really switched off, Lee Wallace got in behind the defence, and it was a simple finish.

“The effort, the commitment and the work was all there, but you need to have everybody at 100 per cent, which we didn’t
