Mcghee: Wewere Wellin control

-

Motherwell .. 1 Aberdeen ..... 3

Andy Mcgilvray Motherwell boss Mark Mcghee bemoaned the concession of “ridiculous” goals as his side crashed 3-1 at home to Aberdeen on Friday night.

Graeme Shinnie opened the scoring for the Dons in six minutes after finding a large gap in the defence, and after Scott Mcdonald had levelled with a spectacular overhead kick, Adam Rooney blasted home a controversial penalty to restore the visitors’ lead.

TV evidence showed that Craig Samson made almost no contact with the striker as he darted into the box in an effort to capitalise on Samson’s parry of a Kenny Mclean effort, but referee Bobby Madden was convinced.

Although Niall Mcginn added a third goal in the final minute of the 90, Mcghee said that goal was almost irrelevant, as the damage had been done.

He said: “The two goals we conceded were ridiculous. We were in control of the game, we looked like the more likely team to take the lead, then we conceded the two goals like we did.”

Motherwell had a great chance to equalise in 38 minutes when Mark Reynolds brought Keith Lasley crashing to the deck, but Louis Moult’s effort was saved by Joe Lewis, his rebound hit a post, and Mcdonald fired past.

Mcghee added: “I think we gifted their goals; the third is irrelevant because we were pushing on, trying to get an equaliser.

“When we were 2-1 down I still thought we were going to get something from the game, right through to when they scored the third goal I thought we were going to get something out of the game.

“We were in it the whole time, and if anything we looked more likely to score.”
